About Famine Prep

Famine Prep is an emergency food storage planner that runs in your browser at famineprep.com. It turns a short form (country, household, budget, supply period and preparation time) into a written food security plan for that household.

Who makes it

Urban Root makes and sells Famine Prep. Urban Root builds small, paid-once web tools for people who grow and store their own food. Its other products include an aeroponics calculator, a grow-room environment calculator and The Homestead Plan, a garden planner. Write to urbanroot.contact@gmail.com with questions or problems.

How a report is written

Our server sends your answers to Anthropic's Claude model with a fixed brief. The brief sets the standards every report uses: 2,100 to 2,400 kcal per adult per day, 1,400 to 2,000 kcal per child under 12, and 15 litres of water per person per day, from the Sphere Handbook and the ICRC. The brief also tells the model to price items in your local currency and to name only shops open to the public.

The free preview is the first three sections. The full report, $19.99 once, has 15 sections (16 with pets). While it writes a full report, the model can run up to three web searches to check local prices and availability. The planner overview lists every section.

What it is not

The figures in a report are AI-generated estimates. They can be wrong, and local prices change. Famine Prep is not nutritional, medical, veterinary, agricultural or financial advice. Check the numbers before you spend money on them.
